On the 11th of March, The Spotnicks’ first drummer Ove Johansson turns 50.
Otherwise this is quite an uneventful year for The Spotnicks.

1991
The Spotnicks take part in a big rock concert in the Stockholm Globe Arena and they also do a couple of gigs in Sweden and Germany.

Stefan Eriksson replaces Alf Brink on bass. Stefan helps Bob with the vocals.

An odd song with The Spotnicks is this year released on a christmas record released on the label Star-Club Records. The song is called Tomten kommer snart, recorded in 1989. Bob Lander’s daughter and a friend of hers sing background vocals.

1992
Bob Lander and Björn Thelin celebrate their 50th birtdays on the 11th of March and the 27th of June respectively.
After a couple of concerts in Sweden and Germany, The Spotnicks break up for good (?), on Bo Winbergs initiative.
The last concert is held in Degerfors on the 10th of June.
Pretty soon the remaining members decide to carry on working together. They pick the name Papa Ó.
Already this year Bo Winberg records four backgrounds in the Music Mill studio in Kumla. The songs are AA, Kentucky my old home, Red sails in the sunset and Bye bye love. He later brings those tapes to California to let Albert Lee (!) superimpose guitar. On the last-mentioned song, a woman called "Shirley" does the background vocal.

Before Bo gets the chance to complete this new album, he has to fulfil his contract with RCA/BMG, which means he has to record one more album. This is going to consist of 12 new songs plus a remixed version of Destination Nordsjön, recorded in 1990, now renamed Helicopter. Bo Winberg lead guitar
Erik Bärnholm guitar
Ulf Wahlborg keyboard
+ programmed drums
After several failed attempts, the record company has to call in Peter Wiberg to remix the album. At last Bo Winberg finds the album acceptable.
This year, many old Spotnicks songs are re-released on CD, first of all in Japan and Germany, but also by SweDisk on Sweden. As a collector, one has to open the wallet...

1993
The album The Spotnicks/Bo Winberg #1 is released and for the first time ever, the band join the Swedish chart Svensktoppen.
In April the song Kissing in the moonlight receives votes enough for a number 10 spot in the chart and this attracts some attention.
In May, the biggest Spotnicks fan in the world, Karl-Gustaf "Sparre" Welin turns 50.
Bo Winberg decides to move to warmer climes, for reasons of health. On the 11th of June, he and his wife Lenah go to Fuengirola, Spain.
Before moving to Spain, he does a farewell concert in Valand in Gothenburg, on the 2nd of April.

He does another gig in Centralens Pub in Gothenburgh, on the 28th of May.

The very last concert before moving to Fuengirola, is held in Åsarnas Wärdshus (!) far north in the Swedish province Jämtland, on the 5th of June.

Before he leaves, he sells his Les Paul guitar. A couple of tapes with rare and interesting recordings are also sold. I am happy enough to own three of those tapes myself.
On the CD 60-talspop från Göteborg (Gothenburg pop of the 60’s), released by the president of the fan club Reino Andersson on his own label Carelia Records, a recording of Crazy ‘bout my baby from 1969 is included. This is one of the great songs from the mentioned tapes.
In October, Bob Lander and Björn Thelin perform together in Förslövs Bygdegård in the Swedish province Skåne.
Those two formed the duo The Rebels before the time of Blue Caps, Frazers and Spotnicks. Now, almost 40 years later, they reuinte for one night.
Papa Ó releases a tape with 14 songs that show that there is much of Spotnicks tradition in this band.

1994
During this year, not much happens with the band, except for many re-releases on CD, first of all in Japan. These include some previously unreleased studio versions of Hernandos Hideaway and Jessica from 1975 and the Swedish version of Gentle on my mind from 1968.
Papa Ó continues to play both in Sweden and Germany. During the winter they have produced a CD for the German market; Back in space, which also includes songs by The Viking Truckers from 1984-86.
Both Peter Winsnes and Magnus Hellsberg turn 50 this year, while Roland Ferneborg celebrates his 70th birthday.
In December Bo Winberg goes to Stockholm to record the remaining songs for the new CD. Bo Winberg lead guitar

Papa Ó keeps on in true Spotnick spirit and among other things they do two tours of Germany, one in the spring and one in the autumn.
Their German CD is remixed and shortened before it is released in Sweden.
They are also engaged by Mitsubishi Motors to record an advertisement CD, which is used in the marketing of the new car Carisma.
From Spain we hear that Bo Winberg has begun to construct an own, exclusive guitar amplifier, like the ones he made in the old days.

1996
On the 22nd of March, Bo Winberg is invited as guest of honour to the 30th anniversary of The Cue Club, held at the restaurant Rondo in Gothenburg. Together with a large amount of other musicians of the sixties from Gothenburg, he appears in front of a big audience. The Cue Club doesn’t exist anymore, but on one occasion in 1967, Bo Winberg played there with Jimi Hendrix (!). Bo Winberg lead guitar
+ The Apaches
During his visit to Sweden, Bo Winberg introduces his home-made amplifier, together with the company LH Musik & Audio AB.
Papa Ó still plays together and this year they do a tour of Germany again, among other things.

1997
In January, Bo Winberg leaves Spain again and goes to Stockholm to record a new album. He is joined by almost the same musicians as on the latest CD and the producer is once again Lennart Sjöholm.

In May the CD The Spotnicks 1997 is released in Sweden. There are plans to release it in Japan, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, England, France and Spain as well.

During three days The Spotnicks 40th anniversary was celebrated in Gothenburg.
On the big stage at Liseberg a performance together with Hep Stars and Svenne och Lotta took place. About 10 000 people in the audience got among other things to see the original personnel of The Spotnicks reuinted after 35 years!
